This is the 12th book of Xi Juan that I listened.
Summary:
FL (Chang Xi Xi) recalled her first meeting with ML (Ji Yan Ze) when she was 13 years old and ML was 10 years old. ML just moved in with his parents to the same apartment block. ML’s home furniture was blocking the road. ML harassed her and then laughed at her flat chest. FL was shocked and quickly ran away. She saw a couple quarrelling on her way.
ML was a rebellious boy growing up in a broken family. ML’s parents fight all the time and when ML was very young, he became the punching bag for both his parents. FL pitied ML and no matter how she tells herself that she should ignore him, she ended up helping him despite his foul speech and rough actions.
ML stole FL’s first kiss. It was an awkward moment and both decided to forget about it. ML managed to pass his examinations to enter high school because he did not want to disappoint FL. When FL was ready to enter university in Taipei, ML told FL that he will marry her and kiss her again. Whenever ML received money from his parents, he will pass it to FL for saving. ML’s mother sold off the apartment and half of the money was given to ML. As usual, ML deposited the money into FL’s account.
When FL saw the money, she went back to Kaohsiung. FL wanted to help ML to open a savings account and planned to transfer a fixed amount every week for his spending. FL told ML that she only treated him as her younger brother. ML said he was serious about her and asked when will she take him seriously. FL told ML after he graduated from school, completed his military training and has a stable career if he still wants to marry her, he can come look for her.
FL has many male admirers but because of her association with ML, she was not able to take any of her admirers seriously. When ML turned 20 years old, FL thought of going back to Kaohsiung to celebrate his birthday. FL was thinking that if ML does not need her anymore, it was time for them to say goodbye and lead separate lives.
ML suddenly appeared in Taipei with all the cuts and bruises. ML told FL that the fastest way to reach his goal was to enter the triad world. He decided to replace his boss to go to prison in exchange for a large sum of money and be the next Triad boss. FL and ML argued. FL realised that ML has really turned bad despite all the caring and counselling throughout the years. FL told ML she will not marry him or go to bed with him. FL told ML that he was no longer a juvenile that she can make excuses for him. FL asked ML to leave her home.
ML did not leave FL’s home. He fainted and was sick due to the infection on his injury. ML woke up 3 days later. FL told ML that she will transfer all the money back to him. FL has given up on ML.
ML wants FL to marry him. It does not matter whether FL loves him or not. In ML’s eyes, FL is the only good woman he has met and all he wants is have her as his wife.
At last, FL realised that ML was serious about marrying her. FL received a letter from ML’s school to tell her that ML has left school. FL has no idea where ML has gone. FL was relieved that ML was not arrested by the police in the gang’s fight.
ML worked at a construction site after he completed his military training. FL worked as a social worker in a single mother centre after her graduation. They met again. FL has a toddler with her and the first question that came out from ML was whether she has given birth to a baby behind his back.
It was not an easy journey for both. FL decided to be with ML despite her colleagues’ scornful look. ML was being looked down. FL’s mother was shocked and objected strongly. ML went to China to start a business with his friend. It took 5 years before he was successful. On FL’s 30th birthday, ML proposed to her with a real ring and gave her a surprise wedding.
