Summary:
Pei Xiu Zhi betrayed his wife, Zhen Jia Fu (FL), and she became Xiao Yin Tang’s mistress as a result. When Xiao Yin Tang became Emperor, he kept FL hidden without bestowing her any titles. Emperor Xiao Yin Tang couldn’t wait to prove himself better; he went to battle and got heavily injured. When he was delirious, he mentioned Pei You An’s name. FL suspected that Xiao Yin Tang killed Pei You An. When Xiao Yin Tang became awake, he asked FL to accompany him after he died. FL agreed. But FL did not expect to be buried alive.
When FL woke up after her death, she was back to the age of 16 before she married Pei Xiu Zhi. FL’s father died during a business trip, and her brother, Zhen Yao Ting, is a wastrel who just likes to enjoy life. In order to protect their family business, FL’s grandmother wanted FL to marry Pei Xiu Zhi, who is a widow. Pei Xiu Zhi’s wife died young and left behind a son named Quan Ge. FL purposely wears perfume that could cause an allergy reaction in Quan Ge, hoping that it will frighten Quan Ge’s grandmothers to believe that if she marries Pei Xiu Zhi, she will bring calamity to Quan Ge. FL met Pei You An (ML) for the first time. ML left home many years ago after he was accused of causing the death of his father’s concubine. ML found out not too long after his father’s death that he was not their biological child. ML confronted Old Madam Pei and got beaten. ML felt that he had no right to the family title and left after he was accused of raping his father’s concubine, and the concubine hanged herself to death.
ML came back to celebrate Old Madam Pei’s birthday and bumped into FL. ML was born with weak health. He has been studying medicine since a young age, and he could immediately diagnose the cause of Quan Ge’s allergy reaction. ML asked the servant to pass a word of caution to FL. FL, scared that ML might interrupt her plan, quickly went to see ML to persuade him not to say anything. FL told ML that she had no wish to marry Pei Xiu Zhi. FL and Pei Xiu Zhi’s engagement got broken at last. FL went home to Zhao Zhou with her mother and brother.
FL saved a young man, not knowing that he was Xiao Yu, the young emperor. Xiao Yu almost got captured, but was saved by ML. ML sent Xiao Yu to General Dong to hide as pirates on the Gold Dragon Island. There were parties that came to find Xiao Yu. Xiao Yin Tang and his members got trapped in Zhao Zhou. Hence, he abducted Chen Yao Ting and FL as hostages to force the Zhen family to find a way to bring them out of the city.
Xiao Yin Tang fell in love with FL. After Xiao Yin Tang returned to Yunnan, he sent his staff to kidnap FL. When FL reached Yunnan, she bumped into ML. FL begged ML to help her. ML persuaded Xiao Yin Tang to let FL go, and he brought FL under his care. FL started to fall in love with ML and suggested ML marry her. ML refused. FL set a trap to force ML to marry her but regretted it the next day. ML sent FL home to Zhao Zhou. Back home, FL insinuated to her grandmother that she had lost her virginity and asked to stay home for life.
ML suddenly came to ask for FL’s hand in marriage. Old Madam Zhen agreed. FL is ashamed that she used dirty tricks before being rejected to marry ML. FL decided to become a nun or kill herself if Xiao Yin Tang kidnapped her again. ML told FL that he would keep his promise to keep her safe and left. ML went to help Xiao Lie (Xiao Yin Tang’s father), the 3rd Prince, revolt. Xiao Lie became the new emperor. Xiao Yin Tang got his fiancée, Zhang Feng Tong, to ask Emperor Xiao Lie to pass an imperial edict to make FL marry Xiao Yin Tang as a concubine as a reward for saving Xiao Yin Tang before. FL has no choice but to go to the capital city again. FL rejected the imperial edict and asked to be rewarded with money instead. Old Madam Pei went to see Emperor Xiao Lie to inform him that FL is ML’s fiancée. Emperor Xiao Lie immediately passed an edict to marry FL to ML.
FL and ML got married at last. FL cried on her first night, thinking that ML was forced to marry her. ML couldn’t stand FL’s cries and consummated their marriage. But when he saw FL’s reaction, he also misunderstood to think that FL only wanted to get away from Xiao Yin Tang, hence marrying him. FL was sad that ML was polite but not affectionate. Zhang Feng Tong also said Xiao Yin Tang likes FL. When Emperor Xiao Lie heard about what happened, he questioned Xiao Yin Tang about whether he killed his concubine, but Xiao Yin Tang denied it. Emperor Xiao Lie was disappointed with Xiao Yin Tang.
Xiao Yin Tang had a dream, and in the dream he was the Emperor, and FL was with him till he died. In the dream, he also found out that ML was his stepbrother and how he killed ML.
ML was sent away to clean up the mess left behind by Xiao Yin Tang’s maternal uncle. Old Madam Pei became very sick. Emperor Xiao Lie came to visit. Old Madam Pei asked FL to hide behind her to listen to the conversation between her and Emperor Xiao Lie. Old Madam Pei questioned Emperor Xiao Lie about whether her daughter willingly slept with him. Emperor Xiao Lie confessed that he forced Pei Wei Jing. ML was Pei Wei Jing and Emperor Xiao Lei’s illegitimate child. When Pei Wei Jing got sick from an epidemic, she was sent to recuperate in a temple. Pei Wei Jing and Xiao Lie grew up together. Xiao Lie sneaked back to the capital city to find a cure for Pei Wei Jing. On the last night, he slept with Pei Wei Jing. He only found out from a doctor that Pei Wei Jing gave birth to his son a few years later. Old Madam Lie told Xiao Lie how Pei Wei Jing died two days after she gave birth. Old Madam Pei asked Xiao Lie not to reveal the truth if he truly loved ML.
ML rushed back to see his grandmother for the last time. ML brought FL to Quan Zhou to visit FL’s grandmother, who is sick. ML met with Xiao Yu and General Dong. Xiao Yu told ML that he has no wish to become an emperor. He gave the jade seal to ML to pass on to Xiao Lie. ML asked FL to spend more time with her family while he went back to the capital city. ML told Emperor Xiao Lie about Xiao Yu and General Dong. ML also set up a trap to make Xiao Yin Tang revolt. Xiao Yin Tang failed, and he was sent to guard the royal mausoleum.
Emperor Xiao Lie sent soldiers to capture General Dong and Xiao Yu. ML came into town to save them. ML refused to tell Emperor Xiao Lie their whereabouts, and this caused a rift between ML and Emperor Xiao Lie. At last, Emperor Xiao Lie told ML that he was his biological father and that he wanted to leave his empire to ML. But ML refused to recognise him, and this made Emperor Xiao Lie extremely angry. Emperor Xiao Lie sent ML away to the north to punish him.
FL suspected something had gone very wrong. After her bodyguard, Yun Yang, came with a letter from ML, she immediately made arrangements to return to the capital city. FL asked to meet Emperor Xiao Lie but did not get any answers. At last, she passed a purple jade to the Eunuch and got a meeting with the Emperor. FL asked to go accompany ML because that was what she had promised Old Madam Pei before. Emperor Xiao Lie allowed.
FL reached the north after a tough journey. ML and FL reunited. ML did not want FL to live a hard life with him and wanted to send her back. FL got upset and threw a tantrum. ML gives in at last. FL’s arrival brought him happiness. FL became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son and named him Pei Yi Yuan. ML successfully helped to stop the Hu tribe from penetrating into the country. Three years later, the Emperor asked his servants to escort FL and Pei Yi Yuan to the capital city. He did it while ML was away. The Emperor decided to make Pei Yi Yuan the next Emperor. FL begged the Emperor to discuss the matter with ML, but he refused. By the time ML reached the capital city, the Emperor had already hinted to all his officials that Pei Yi Yuan might be the next Emperor. ML and the Emperor had a big argument. FL went to pacify both. Xiao Yin Tang was instigated by Zhang’s family to revolt. Xiao Yin Tang said he has held Pei Xiu Zhi hostage, and Pei Xiu Zhi also confirmed that ML is not his biological brother. FL went to see Xiao Yin Tang, hoping to buy time for ML to come back. FL was surprised to see Zhang Feng Tong. Zhang Feng Tong pretended to be crazy to leave the palace and even killed her own daughter to achieve her objective. FL found out that Xiao Yin Tang remembered his past life. FL told Xiao Yin Tang that she refused to follow him and that Zhang Feng Tong buried her alive after he died. Xiao Yin Tang refused to accept that FL did not want him and promised to kill Zhang Feng Tong once he became the Emperor. This pisses off Zhang Feng Tong. Zhang Feng Tong and Xiao Yin Tang got into a fight. Zhang Feng Tong was stabbed to death. Emperor Xiao Lie came. Xiao Yin Tang complained that the Emperor has always been biassed towards ML. Xiao Yin Tang tried to kill the Emperor but got killed by Eunuch Li instead.
Xiao Yu was locked on Green Dragon Island. ML and FL went to visit him. Xiao Yu told ML that he does not want to become an emperor but a sailor. He spent the last few years building his own ship and plans to travel the world.
The Emperor is getting very sick. ML reluctantly agreed to allow Pei Yi Yuan to ascend the throne. ML became the prime minister. ML and FL accompany Pei Yi Yuan until he is able to control the government before ML retires. ML and FL went back to Su Yue, where they were very happy before. FL wanted another child. FL gave birth to a girl and named her A Yuan. Pei Yi Yuan gave a princess title to A Yuan.
The Pei family is ruined. Ever since the kidnapping by Xiao Yin Tang, Pei Xiu Zhi has become a drunkard and ignored his wife. Quan Ge became a gambler. Quan Ge saw his stepmother, Zhao Shi, having an affair with his uncle, Pei Xiu Luo. Quan Ge exhorted money from his uncle. Pei Xiu Luo decided to kill Quan Ge and end his relationship with Zhao Shi. Zhao Shi did not want to let go; she tricked Pei Xiu Luo, locked him in a room, and set fire. Then she hanged herself to death.
Side Story 1
Prince Xiao Lie woke up from a dream and saw a man in the dark telling him to go back to the capital city if he still wanted to marry the love of his life. Prince Xiao Lie rushed back and managed to stop the tragedy from happening. Prince Xiao Lie married Pei Wei Jing, and they moved to Yunnan. Many years later, they met ML.
Side Story 2
ML lives again, but as an orphan living in a temple. ML met FL in a temple. FL’s father noticed the potential in ML; hence, he suggested that he become FL’s fiancée, and he agreed. FL’s father avoided a calamity when he was escorting ML to the capital to take the national exam. ML and FL live happily ever after.
