Yu Ye Qing Sheng also produced another audiobook that I like called 三嫁惹君心 (San Jia Re Jun Xin – Three Marriages). I picked this story because it is not lengthy and the title of the book. It did not disappoint me at all. If you want to listen to a short ancient romance story to pass time, you can consider this book.
Summary:
Jun Cheng Liu has 3 daughters. The only regret was he has no son. He has been looking for someone to take over his family business. Jun Qi Luo (FL) is Jun Cheng Liu’s first daughter and has been put to manage the family business. Because of public prejudice, FL has disguised herself as a male when she went out for business appointments. She took on a new name as Jun Fei Fan and everyone thought she was the illegitimate son of Jun Cheng Liu. In the ancient time, it was not easy to find understanding husbands that will allow their wives to trade. Jun Cheng Liu’s second daughter married a scholar (Zheng Su Ting) and has since stopped working in the family business.
FL was already 20 years old and decided to remain single. Her dad wanted her to marry Shao Tian Meng, her personal guard that taught her kung fu. FL said she will consider after her business trip to Western Xia. Jun Cheng Liu’s third daughter is called Jun Jiang Zhun, only 16 years old.
FL traveled with a group of soldiers in disguise to escort a princess to a political marriage to send a secret letter to Western Xia. FL had a bad feeling when she saw the quality of the soldiers escorting them. The leader of the military look down on FL and ignored her advice. There were 20 other traders in the group that look toward FL as their leader.
They encountered a group of bandits disguised by the Liao soldiers. A man with blue eyes walked out looking for the group leader. Ye Lu Lie (ML) suspected FL’s gender and tried to touch her chest to confirm. When Shao Tian Meng saw that, he tried to fight and got injured heavily. ML asked FL to become his mistress and got a slap from FL. FL took out a dagger to kill herself but was stopped by ML.
ML made FL his mistress eventually. FL worried that she will be pregnant hence she went to ask an old servant for a contraceptive medicine. The old servant declined to help. As she walked out, two prostitutes offered her a packet of medicine. In return, FL gave them a bangle given by ML. The medicine was destroyed by a ML’s guard that overheard the prostitutes’ conversation to harm FL. ML was told of the incident and got extremely angry with FL for not wanting to conceive his child.
ML took FL back to his country. ML’s mother De Wang Fei was not happy when she heard that her son brought back a Han girl. She planned to get rid of FL in ML’s absence. When De Wang Fei slapped FL during a social event, ML was so angry that he sent his mother and all De clan members and servants back to their hometown. De Wang Fei wanted to take revenge on FL and assigned a man called Ke Li Han and a maid to kill FL.
The Liao Emperor (Ye Lu Long Shi) and ML are cousins. The emperor suggested to ML to marry 3 princesses from 3 different clans to form alliances to strengthen their country.
FL has fallen in love with ML. When FL found out that she was pregnant, she worried about her future in the Liao country as she knew ML will not marry her and her child will remain a stigma if she returns to her country.
During a dinner event, all the three future wife candidates of ML came to see him. ML did not know that FL understands Qi Dan language. FL got very upset and asked to return to her room. FL cried and wanted to kill herself. When ML returned to their room, FL confronted him. ML explained his reason to marry the 3 girls. FL was sad that ML did not love her enough to give her a formal status as his wife. They argued and FL walked out planning to leave ML. ML tied FL on the bed and went to the palace.
ML went to ask for permission from the Liao Emperor to marry FL as his Wang Fei. He also wanted to cancel the marriage arrangement with the 3 girls. The emperor agreed as he also wanted to start to promote cross border marriages.
FL’s maid (Tong Ying) helped FL to run away. Ke Li Han saw FL and followed her waiting for a chance to kill her. FL ride towards the cliff. Ke Li Han thought FL will give up since there was no way to escape but FL told him that it was her intention to ride towards the cliff. When FL saw ML about to arrive, FL jumped down from the cliff. ML killed Ke Li Han and wanted to jump too but was saved by his assistant.
FL was saved by a wuxia couple and they sent her back to Hang Zhou. When FL returned home, she was already 4 months pregnant.
When FL was 7 months pregnant, her stomach was unusually big. Zheng Su Ting criticized FL for her illicitness and did not realise that FL was the financial controller of the Jun family. Zheng Su Ting has been relying on Jun’s family for his livelihood. FL cut off all the financial support to punish Zheng Su Ting.
Zheng Su Ting was ridiculed by his so-called friends and this was seen by ML and his Assistant (To Luo Chi). To Luo Chi went to investigate further and found out that FL was still alive. ML went to see FL. At first FL was still angry with ML but after she heard his explanation, she forgave him.
FL gave birth to a pair of twin boys. One of them has blue eyes like ML. FL asked ML to leave one of her son behind in Hang Zhou to become the Jun family’s heir. Initially ML disagreed but he eventually gave in to FL.
