Story-wise, it started off great. Unlike other rebirth stories, both the Male Lead and the Female Lead get the chance to relive their life again. ML tried to make amends for his past mistakes meanwhile FL avoided ML, afraid of going through the same tragedy.
Summary:
FL (Jian Yun Xi) was an Empress abandoned by ML (Chen Yan Hua). Her father got locked up to be executed. FL regretted marrying aML, 4 years ago. Even though ML has 2 Ce Fei and 3 concubines, she still married him. FL’s family supported ML in his fight to ascend the throne. Now that he has become the emperor, he wanted to get rid of FL’s father. FL killed herself and after her death, her soul travelled back to the past. FL woke up at the age of 15 years old before she married ML. FL gets a second chance to re-live her life and tells herself to prevent the same tragedy from happening again.
FL met ML and it happened earlier compared to her past life. ML pursued FL but got rejected. When FL sees her dad (Jian Po Wen), she hugs him tightly. She recalled her sadness for not able to see Jian Po Wen (JPW) in the prison in her past life. FL went back to her room and got confused that her personal maid Chui Er was not in her room. Then a maid (Xiao Yue) came in and told FL that Chui Er has already married. Once again, the thing is happening earlier than usual.
FL went to the west lake and bumped into ML again. Just like before, FL ignored him. Fl brought Xiao Yue this time and accidentally told ML, the FL’s name. On the way home, FL met an old man who seems like an astrologer. The astrologer said that not everyone has a second chance living and told her to let go of the past and start fresh again. FL got stunned when she heard that. After the astrologer, FL met the 2nd prince (Chen Yu Hua), who has a cruel personality and someone who she definitely does not want to mess around with.
When FL got home, JPW told her that the emperor has hinted that he planned to betrothed FL to one of his sons. That night, a man sneaked into FL’s room and lay down on her bed next to her. The man left before FL woke up. FL suspected a thief when she saw the footprints. FL asked JPW to look for a suitable husband candidate for her. JPW told her about Chen Qing Wei a few days later and FL agreed to go on a matchmaking date. Chen Qing Wei has no ambition to enter politics which suited with FL. Suddenly, a woman came crying claiming that Chen Qing Wei was her lover.
FL left and met Chen Yu Hua. Knowing how dangerous Chen Yu Hua was when she saw ML, she pretended as ML’s woman trying to block off Chen Yu Hua. ML noticed that and helped FL to put on a show. A few days later, FL heard that Chen Qing Wei got engaged and the girl was a distant relative of ML. FL immediately realised that it was ML that has thwarted her plan to marry Chen Qing Wei. FL asked JPW to look for another husband candidate. JPW found another candidate and agreed on FL’s behalf on a matchmaking date. FL’s dad did not tell FL who was the candidate and said the meeting set at the temple. When FL met Zhao Zhi Jian at the temple. FL was upset when she saw Zhao Zhi Jian as she remembered in her past life, it was Zhao Zhi Jian’s dad, who arrested JPW. ML also appeared at the temple and warned Zhao Zhi Jian to stay away from FL.
ML and FL bumped into the old astrologer. The astrologer repeated the same advice to FL. FL said that she could not let go of the past. ML stunned when he heard that. ML and the astrologer has a separate meeting. The astrologer told ML that FL went through the same rebirth like him. ML slowly understood the FL’s rejection and the hatred that he has seen in FL’s eyes.
ML finally went knocking at FL’s house after he did not see her for a few days. ML admitted to JPW that he wants to pursue FL. ML also told his father, the emperor that he is pursuing FL on his own instead of getting the emperor to give FL to him.
1st Prince (Chen Zhen Hua) and 2nd Prince (Chen Yu Hua) tested ML when they saw ML was paying lots of attention to FL. One night, Chen Zhen Hua’s staff tried to harm FL but prevented by Chen Yu Hua’s staff. ML saw what had happened and when both men left, he puts FL on the bed and lay down next to her again. This time, ML overslept. When FL woke up, she was angry to see ML. This was the third that ML did that.
ML continued his pursuit of FL even though FL despised him. ML even cooked for FL. FL impressed when she saw that and lost herself temporarily and shared a kiss with ML. ML thought after the kiss, things will turn better but FL went back to her cool self the next day.
Chen Yu Hua told the emperor that FL and he have fallen in love with each other and asked the emperor to give FL to him. ML rushed to see the emperor. The emperor purposely tried to make things difficult for ML but after seeing how serious his youngest son was, he relented and said he will never bestow FL to Chen Yu Hua.
Chen Yu Hua asked FL to marry him so that she can avoid ML. FL refused. When ML saw FL meeting Chen Yu Hua, he got jealous and even more when FL told him that she likes Chen Yu Hua. ML became very frightening and at last, FL admitted that it was only a joke.
Wen FL continued to refuse to marry ML, he asked the emperor to send an edict to the Jian family. FL scheduled to marry in two months time. This happened earlier than expected. When FL saw ML, she released all her anger at him and then cried herself to sleep. When FL woke up, ML’s face has swollen up beaten by FL. FL asked ML to cancel the engagement. FL said she does not love him and it would not be a happy marriage for both. ML asked FL whether she does not love him or dare not love him
FL begged JPW to ask the emperor to cancel the edict but Jian Po Wen refused. FL retaliated and match JPW with the fiercest woman that she can find. FL gave JPW two choices. JPW decided to go on the matchmaking date instead. JPW met with Zhao Ying Ying who is 25 years old. ZYY was only fierce towards the bully. She likes JPW, hence she put on her best in her first meeting with JPW.
JPW has an adopted son called Jiang Xin Yu (JXY). JXY loves FL and asked JPW why is he sacrificing FL in his plan to rebel. JPW pacified JXY that FL will be his once they are successful. Many years ago, there were more than 100 family members of the Jian and the Jiang died due to the Emperor.
JPW married Zhao Ying Ying. After the wedding party, FL went back to her room and saw Chen Yu Hua. Chen Yu Hua hit FL unconscious and slept on the same bed with her. The next day, ML came to see FL and got mad when he saw FL with Chen Yu Hua. ML loves FL too much and knowing the Chen Yu Hua purposely did it to cause trouble for him and FL, he just let the matter goes.
The empress dowager asked to meet FL. She heard from the empress that FL has poor character because of her matchmaking dates. FL surprised how the empress dowager treated her which was different from her past life. At the end, FL managed to talk her way out with the empress dowager.
FL got extremely angry with ML when she got to know that her personal maid was arranged by ML. They quarrelled. FL asked her friend (Tang Yue) to abduct her on her wedding night but then changed her mind later when she thought of her dead baby in her past life. FL decided to conceive a child first before leaving ML.
On her wedding nite, the empress sent assassins to kill FL. Xiao Yue got injured and Chiu Yue came to replace Xiao Yue as her personal maid. FL was happy to see Chiu Yue, as Chiu Yue stayed by her side and did not abandon her in her past life. The next morning, FL surprised to hear that ML has arranged marriages for his concubines. ML said he has never slept with anyone of them.
ML persuaded JPW to cancel his plan to revolt but JPW refused. Chen Yu Hua told FL that ML was fighting with JPW. ML assured FL there was no major problem between him and JPW. FL overheard the conversation between ML and the astrologer. FL realised that ML went through the rebirth like her and thought he will surely carry out his plan to become the next Emperor. FL ran away from home with Tang Yue.
ML’s Ce Fei started to spread rumours that FL ran away with a man. ML used the opportunity to divorce both women. FL found out that she was 3 months pregnant after she left with Tang Yue. Tang Yue took FL back to his Sect. ML managed to settle the problem with JPW. JPW gave up his military power and went on early retirement. Zhao Ying Ying gave birth to a baby boy. Chen Yu Hua took up the courage to ask for permission to marry his lover boy. After everything has settled as planned, ML rushed to the Tang Sect hoping to get there before the birth of his first child. Before ML could explain, FL stopped him. FL apologised to ML that she has wronged ML twice. She did not know that her dad has planned to revolt in her past life and she did not trust ML before.
