I did not like the last book of Hai Qing Na Tian E that I listened (白芍 (Bai Shao).  So, I was hoping that I will not be disappointed with this book.  This book was posted by Hamster on Shushengbar site.

Summary:

FL (Fu Jing) lives in a chaotic war period time.  She was born into a noble family.  Her parents sent her to the palace to save her before they got executed. The Empress Dowager protected FL from being executed.  After the Empress Dowager passed away, FL who was 15 years old, got married off to a family in Lai Yang to a retard called Han Guang.

5 years later…

The empire got controlled by warlords.  General Wei put a puppet emperor on the throne.  When General Wei took over Lai Yang city, General Wei asked about FL.  The Han Governor immediately gave FL to General Wei.  Wei General got his son, Wei Tan (ML) to marry FL.  It was a marriage in name only.

In Yong Du Capital City, FL saved one of her family servants.  After that, FL used her servant to start a trading business. FL also met two old friends there.  One of them married into another noble family and the other person called Ruo Chan ended up as high-class hostess.  Ruo Chan told FL that ML has a love relationship with the current Empress Xu Ping.  FL and the Emperor actually grew up together protected by the Empress Dowager.  But after FL got married, they grew apart.

ML’s mother was the first wife of General Wei Jue.  After she passed away, Wei Jue promoted his beloved concubine, Madam Guo to main wife position.

One day, ML suggested FL go back to Huai Yang to visit her family memorial hall.  ML hinted to FL that she has the freedom to stay on as his wife or to leave.  FL did not understand his meaning until she reached Huai Yang and met Pei Qian, her ex-fiance.  FL and Pei Qian were in love before.  FL blamed Pei Qian for his heartlessness for cancelling their engagement and married another woman.  Pei Qian’s servant told FL that all that happened was not Pei Qian’s wishes.  Pei Qian got locked up by his parents when his parents went to cancel the engagement after they know that the Fu’s family will get into trouble for offending Empress Bian. Pei Qian’s mother threatened to kill herself if Pei Qian did not marry the girl they chose for him.

Pei Qian asked FL to stay on and explained that it was him who asked ML to bring FL out of Lai Yang.  When FL got to know that the Pei family has some involvement in the downfall of her family, FL decided to stay on as ML’s wife instead.

FL and ML consummated their marriage at last.  ML surprised that FL was still a virgin.  FL slowly came to understand that the entire family was under the control of Wei Jue (ML’s father).   FL also know that she has some usage hence the Pei family still treated her well.  FL knows that to safeguard her position in the Pei family, she will need to conceive a child quickly.

When FL was in Luo Yang, she met with relatives from her mother’s side.   FL’s maternal uncle had passed away and left a wife and two children.  FL agreed to help her cousin brother with his career.  FL also met her cousin sister, Qiao Ti, whom she disliked since young.  When Qiao Ti saw ML, she wanted to be his concubine but her wish did not come through.

FL went back Yong Du with ML.  Life went back as normal in Pei Residence but FL was still not pregnant.  FL’s pressure increases when Pei Zhou’s (ML’s stepbrother) concubine got pregnant.

FL forced to accept Ren Ji as ML’s concubine.  ML did not sleep with Ren Ji and one day out of the sudden the roof collapsed in Ren Ji’s room.  It means bad luck.  Ren Ji got sent to live in the family’s temple instead.

ML left for another war with the South in Qi Ling.  One day, FL received a message from Wei Jue to say that ML is very sick and asked FL to go to Qi Ling.  FL went with Wei An (ML’s biological brother).  ML faked sickness to avoid another argument with Wei Jue due to the difference of opinion in their battle tactics with the South.   FL found out she was pregnant in Qi Ling.

FL and Wei An left Qi Ling in a hurry when they received a sudden attack from the South.  FL and Wei An did not reach Yong Du.  They got captured by Wu Kun (another warlord).  Pei Qian works for Wu Hao and arrived on time to prevent FL from being hurt by Wu Kun’s soldiers.  FL and Wei An met Cui Wei who they met before.  Cui Wei is a strategist and ML had once offered him a role but got rejected.  Wei An admired Cui Wei has modified Cui Wei’s wheelchair before.

Wei Jue lost the battle with the south.  His two siblings got killed.  ML, Wei Jue and Wei Zhou managed to escape.  ML went to rescue FL and Wei An with help from Pei Qian.

Ren Ji became Wei Jue’s concubine.  FL gave birth to a baby girl.  Wei Jue got a stroke and retired from his post.  Wei Jue’s supporters spilt between ML and Wei Zhou.  ML got promoted to Da Si Ma.

ML and Wei An went for another war with General Liang Wei from the South.  A few months later, the Wei residence received news that both ML and Wei An died in the battle.  Wei Zhou got promoted to Shi Zhi and General to lead the military to fight Liang Wei.  FL did not believe the news and plan to leave the Wei’s residence.

After news about ML died in the battle, there were two parties fighting in the government.  One of them is Wei Jue’s brother, Wei Kang and another person is Guo Jie, Wei Jue’s brother in law.  Both are Wei Zhou’s uncles and he was caught between them.  Civil fights started and the noblemen left the city.  Madam Guo and Wei Zhou left as well.

FL realised that the fights instigated by the Emperor.  ML came back in time to stop the civil war.  The Emperor abdicated his throne and passed on to ML.

The story ended happily with ML having two kids with FL.  The epilogue tells the story about ML falling in love with FL way before he married her and the story about Empress Xu.
